AIDA3 – Advanced Freediver Course:

In your AIDA2 course, you experienced a detailed introduction to modern freediving. These courses focus mainly on safety by learning and applying a sound freediving technique. If you have understood and were able to apply these fundamental freedive-skills, the required performances for your AIDA2 certifications were safely in your reach, without extra training, and certainly without stretching your personal limits.

In this AIDA3 Course, you will now go one step beyond. You learn how to train as a freediver and bring your freediving to the next level, beyond the basics. Systematically and safely you will expand your capabilities as a freediver.

The “numbers” in freediving are a symptom of good technique. They are never the result of pushing beyond your limits.

At the end of this course the goal is for all students to be comfortable with 2.45min+ Static Breath Holds, 55m+ Dynamic Apnea Swims and 24-30m Deep Dives.

Prerequisites: AIDA Level 2 or equivalent course from another provider OR Demonstrable Freediving experience (i.e. official competition results). Are 18 years or older (or 16 years old with parental consent).

Course Outline:

Duration: 2.5 Days.

Friday Evening – Theory Session which covers – Physiology, Equalisation, Barotrauma, Lungs at Depth, Buoyancy, Hypoxia & Blackout, Training Concepts and The Mammalian Dive Response.

Saturday & Sunday – Practical Sessions both Pool and Open Water Based.

Pool – Practice Static and Dynamic Apnea. Focus is on building from AIDA2 by incorporating Training Tables to help us achieve longer performances. In addition, the technique points from AIDA2 are expected to be refined to a higher level.

Open Water – Continue developing the skills we have developed in the pool, but apply them to deep diving. These sessions expand the focus to include Frenzel Equalisation, Freefall and setting out target neutral buoyancy. Once again this allows us to build to achieve deeper dives.

Equipment: Wetsuit (Ideally a thinner pool suit and a thicker open water suit), Mask, Snorkel, Weights and Weight Belt, Long Freediving Fins and Booties.

Other recommended things: Water bottle to stay hydrated, sunblock and a hat.

Booking Info: In order to secure your space on the course we require a non-refundable deposit which is 50% of the course cost. This allows us to be certain of numbers attending the course so we can book pool space, classroom space etc. Any situation where a course is unable to go ahead for an unforeseen reason at AFC, we will fully refund your deposit.

We require 3 people minimum for a 4 person course to go ahead. For an 8 person course, we require a minimum of 5. If we (AFC) have to cancel a course due to not having enough participants, your deposit will be fully refunded.

COVID19 – We have seen alert levels change at short notice. In the event of a change that will prevent the course from fully or partially going ahead, your deposit will be fully refunded.

Change of mind/circumstance – It’s difficult to fill these courses, which is why we don’t give change of mind refunds. If you need to cancel let us know, we may be able to move you to another course depending on available space. Or if we can fill your spot, we will be able to offer you a refund.
